1. I am getting an error message that my name/date of birth/Social Security Number does not exist. Why?

A number of factors could be causing the error message, such as:

  • The Division of Student Financial Aid (SFA) has not yet received your 2013-2014 FAFSA from the Federal Processor. It takes 5 to 7 business days for the Federal Processor to send your FAFSA to SFA.
  • You filed a FAFSA for the incorrect academic year.
  • You have not yet filed a FAFSA. If this is the case, please visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to do so.
  • You have filed a FAFSA, but you have not listed Indiana as your state of legal residence. The FAFSA will only be sent to the state listed as your state of legal residence.
  • The FAFSA was saved instead of submitted.
  • The data being entered on your application does not match the data submitted on the FAFSA.

2. I keep receiving error messages and cannot submit my application. What should I do?

Contact SFA at (888) 528-4719 or awards@che.in.gov. If possible, please keep a screenshot of the error message.

3. I am not yet enrolled in a program/school. Can I still apply?

It is recommended that you submit your application only for the school you are/will be attending; however, you may apply using the school you most likely will attend. Be sure to update your school choice via eStudent once you are enrolled.
