St. Cloud, MN - This evening, Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita will observe and give a keynote speech before Minnesota election administrators and staff at their state conference in St. Cloud, MN. Personally invited by Minnesota Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer, Rokita will give his thoughts on election reforms affecting all states. As the current treasurer and future president of the National Association of Secretaries of State and as an advisor to the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC), Rokita will offer both a national perspective and share his experiences overseeing Indiana's own reforms.

Tonight's speech follows two short trips in as many weeks to Washington, D.C. where Secretary Rokita discussed Indiana and federal reforms with the EAC and took part in a government-sponsored summit on voter fraud. Indiana is seen as a national model for the implementation of several of its key reform efforts. As Indiana's Chief Election Officer, Secretary Rokita has presented Indiana's provisional balloting process before officials from across the country and testified on Indiana's reform successes before Congress.

"In the last two years, we have seen more election reform in Indiana and throughout the United States than we have since the Voting Rights Act of 1965," Rokita said. "These improvements cannot be done without everybody working together, and I intend to take that message with me to Minnesota where I think they have done a fantastic job with their election administration efforts."

Rokita will share a message similar to his remarks in Minnesota at the Indiana State Clerks Association Conference on June 13. There, Rokita will meet with state election administrators as the counties prepare for the November 7 General Election. Since taking office, Rokita has participated in all but one statewide or regional election conference with Indiana's county clerks with the exception being when official business put him in Washington, D.C. Rokita also takes part in monthly steering committee meetings and weekly conference calls with clerks and election officials concerning Indiana's Statewide Voter Registration System - the largest IT project in Indiana history which links all 92 counties and several state and federal agencies to maintain the state's voter roll.
