Municipal Primaries Less Than One Week Away in 78 of 92 Counties
Indianapolis, IN - With less than one week remaining before the May 8th Municipal Primaries, Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is reminding Hoosier voters to mark their calendars, bring photo ID, and come to the polls on Election Day.
“I want every eligible Hoosier to exercise his or her right to vote on May 8 th ,” said Rokita. “We have taken significant steps in recent years to make our elections accessible to all voters, and we have developed a number of resources to help Hoosiers better understand the process.”
Only city and town officials will be nominated during the Municipal Primary; therefore, only residents of cities or towns in Indiana's 78 counties that will hold Primary Elections are eligible to participate next Tuesday.
As part of an unprecedented statewide voter education effort, Rokita is urging voters to seek answers to their election-related questions before Election Day by using the Hoosier Voter Help Line, IndianaVoters.com, and PhotoID.IN.gov.
Hoosier Voter Help Line
The Hoosier Voter Help Line, 1-866-IN-1-VOTE (1-866-461-8683), is a comprehensive resource designed to answer any election questions leading up to or on Election Day. Voters are also encouraged to use the Help Line to report suspected fraud or any physical obstacles to voting that they experience. The Help Line will be staffed by employees of the Secretary of State's office from 6 AM to 7 PM EDT on May 8 th and otherwise during normal business hours.

PhotoID.IN.gov explains the basics of Indiana's photo ID law, including exemptions, what kinds of IDs are acceptable, how to get an ID, how to cast a ballot without an ID, how to vote absentee, and necessary documentation to obtain a free ID. The site walks voters through steps to get a free state-issued ID from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) as provided by law, and allows voters to print off a checklist for required documents as well as an explanation of the law to take with them to the BMV.
