Internship Criteria

Who can apply?

Candidates for the legal internship must have completed the first year of law school. Candidates may either apply for a legal internship with the Securities Division or with the General Counsel.

What are the desired qualifications?

An applicant should be a professional and well-organized student with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Applicants should possess strong time and project management skills and be able to perform well under pressure. The applicant must be able to work in a fast paced environment with litigation deadlines while keeping a professional attitude and work ethic.

When is the internship program offered?

The legal internships are offered three times a year during the summer, fall and spring semesters.

How do I apply?

All candidates need to submit the following to be considered for the internship program.

  • Resume
  • Two school or professional references
  • Current legal writing sample

The Office of the Indiana Secretary of State will review each application individually. Applications for the spring internship are no longer being accepted. Applications for the summer internships will be accepted through March 31, 2013 and applications for the fall internships will be accepted through August 1, 2013.
