Internship Criteria

Who can apply?

The Secretary of State's internship program is open to any college student at a sophomore standing or higher and to recent graduates with an interest in communications or public relations.

What are the desired qualifications?

An applicant should be a professional and well-organized student with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Applicants must possess a strong knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as some understanding of typical administrative responsibilities.

When is the internship program offered?

Communications internships are offered three times a year during the summer, fall and spring semesters. The summer internships are full time. Part time opportunities are available during the fall and spring semesters.

Requirements:

  • Candidate should possess strong writing skills
  • Candidate should possess strong time and project management skills
  • Candidate should be able to perform well under pressure
  • Candidate must be knowledgeable in marketing, public relations and/or digital media

How do I apply?

All candidates need to submit the following to be considered for the internship program.

  • Resume
  • Two school or professional references
  • Three recent writing samples

The Office of the Indiana Secretary of State will review each application individually. Applications for the spring internship are no longer being accepted. Applications for the summer internship will be accepted through April 15 and applications for the fall internship will be accepted through August 1, 2013.
