Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White encourages Hoosiers to take advantage of different registration options as deadline approaches

INDIANAPOLIS (March 28, 2011) – Monday, April 4th, 2011 is the last day for a voter to submit a new voter registration application or to update an existing voter registration record for the Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 Primary Election.

Register to vote on your mobile device:
Hoosiers visiting http://www.indianavoters.com/ on their Internet-enabled cell phones or other mobile devices are now able to more easily register to vote on the go after a significant upgrade in the site’s mobile user experience. Indiana residents with a valid Indiana driver’s license or Indiana state-issued identification card will be able to use this improved tool to submit a new voter registration application or to update an existing voter registration record. Indiana residents have until Midnight on Monday, April 4th, 2011 to submit an application online.

Register to vote online:
Register to vote online by visiting http://www.indianavoters.com/. Indiana residents with a valid Indiana driver’s license or Indiana state-issued identification card will be able to use this tool to submit a new voter registration application or to update an existing voter registration record. Indiana residents have until Midnight on Monday, April 4th, 2011 to submit an application online.

In addition to registering to vote online, http://www.indianavoters.com/ provides Hoosiers with the ability to validate their voter registration status, find their polling place location, look into their provisional ballot status information, find county contact information, and determine “Who's On Your Ballot?” for an upcoming election.

Register to vote by mail or in-person:
To register to vote or update a current registration by mail or in person, Indiana residents will need to complete and return the Voter Registration Form (En Español) on or before Monday, April 4th, 2011 to their county’s voter registration office or to the Indiana Election Division. Applications that are postmarked on or before Monday, April 4th, 2011 will count as having met the voter registration deadline.

Indiana residents can also apply in person at the voter registration or county clerk’s office, any BMV license branch or at a public assistance office on or before Monday, April 4th, 2011.

What happens after application is submitted:
Once a voter registration application is received, a county voter registration office will process the application and determine eligibility. If the resident is eligible, the county office will send the resident a voter registration acknowledgment card. Once the resident receives that card, the resident will be officially registered. If the resident is not eligible, or if the application was incomplete, the resident will receive a notice denying the application or requesting the missing information.

Indiana residents can check their registration status anytime at http://www.indianavoters.com/ or by calling the Hoosier Voter Hotline at 1-866-IN-1-VOTE.

Extended registration:
Certain military voters and their family members who meet criteria set out in the 2011 Military and Overseas Voter Guide may be eligible to register to vote for the upcoming Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011 Primary Election after the voter registration deadline.

Early voting begins:
Monday, April 4th, 2011 is the first day a voter may vote an absentee ballot before an absentee voter board in the office of the county circuit court clerk.  Hoosiers can contact their local county clerk for specific locations and hours.  Contact information for all 92 county clerks can be found at http://www.indianavoters.com/.  Voters should remember to bring a valid photo ID to the early voting locations.
