Opportunity offers current Duke University senior chance to experience state government

(Indianapolis) – Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is pleased to announce that Stewart Day of Indianapolis is currently completing his office’s 2010 Fellowship Program. The summer-long program selects college and university students from around the state and provides the opportunity to experience state government first-hand through the Secretary of State’s office.

“Stewart embodies the kind of person you want to have working for the State of Indiana,” Secretary Rokita said. “He not only has the potential to help guide our state and country with his sought after leadership, but also shows the type of innovation we will need in years to come.”

Day is currently pursuing degrees in Political Science and German. He is actively involved in College Republicans and served as vice president of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

“I’m most looking forward to seeing how government operates on a daily basis within a busy and important office,” said Day.

During time spent in the office thus far, Day has being working with Secretary Rokita’s Notary deputy reaching out to Notary Publics, one of the office’s constituencies, and drawing up reports.

In addition, he will have opportunities to meet with various elected officials which will help further his understanding of the political and governing process.

“Working in government provides insight into the relationship between the governors and the governed, both of whom act according to the laws of the land, so I believe this experience will set a foundation of civic understanding upon which I can build my legal education,” said Day.

A 2007 graduate of North Central High School, Day is the son of Larry Lad and Diane Day. He will graduate from Duke University in May of 2011 and plans on pursuing a law degree.
