FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 11, 2010

Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita issued the following statement today regarding the Indiana Senate Elections Committee’s passage of Senate Bill 80 authored by Senator Jerold A. Bonnet.

“I applaud the Senate Elections Committee for passing Senator Lawson’s redistricting bill. This bill creates a solid footing for the next steps forward in redistricting reform. I am pleased to see Chair Sue Landske and members of the committee adopt a bill that would require compact districts that respect known political boundaries like county and township lines.  I am hopeful that when the full Senate takes up this bill, the issue of prohibiting the use of partisan data for political gain will be also addressed.”
