Secretary of State Rokita introduces electronic filing system
New system allows businesses to file entity reports online

Indianapolis, IN - Secretary of State Todd Rokita introduced today the first electronic filing available for business entities in his office's Business Services Division. This new feature was designed to allow Indiana businesses to file their entity reports electronically 24 hours a day.

"This system will allow my office to serve Hoosier businesses with greater efficiency, and at the same time, significantly upgrade the technological capabilities essential to our customers and our staff," Rokita said. "Web-based technology is crucial to today's businesses, and the new system reflects our customer's needs."

Business entity reports, which provide up-to-date information about a business, must be filed every year for non-profit businesses and every two years for for-profit businesses. The new system allows customers to quickly and easily file their reports online, which is more cost effective and efficient than filing via paper. Previously, the Division mailed between ten thousand and twelve thousand business entity reports each month.

"Online filing of business entity reports will be a great asset to the business world. Cutting down on the paperwork will make this process much easier for our customers," Liz Keele, Director of Business Services, said.

The electronic database and filing system, one of Secretary Rokita's priorities for the Business Service Division, is one component of a larger modernization project which involves scanning millions of legacy documents for eventual online use.

To file a report, go to the Secretary's corporations website at http://www.in.gov/sos/business/corps/searches.html and search for your corporation name.
