Randolph to chair Indiana Black Legislative Caucus

INDIANAPOLIS-State Senator Lonnie M. Randolph (D-East Chicago) was recently elected to serve as Chair of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus (IBLC) during the 118th Indiana General Assembly. The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus is comprised of legislators from the Indiana Senate and House of Representatives and works to develop legislation and provide support for programs that positively impact minority communities throughout the state.

"So many of the issues we work to promote like fairness in the workplace, small business development, and equal educational opportunities are issues that impact all Hoosiers." said Randolph. "I'm looking forward to working with the membership of the IBLC to advocate for these measures to strengthen our communities and our state."

The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus was established in 1979 in an effort to focus the legislative initiatives of the Indiana General Assembly's African-American legislators. Since its creation, the IBLC has worked to promote their mission through bi-partisan events, educational symposiums and job fairs.

New leadership for the 118th General Assembly includes Representative John Bartlett as Vice-Chairman, Senator Greg Taylor as Treasurer/Secretary, and Representative Robin Shackleford as Chaplain.

Randolph represents Indiana Senate District 2 which encompasses portions of Lake County, including the communities of East Chicago, Whiting, and portions of Gary, Griffith, Hammond, Hobart and Merrillville.
