INDIANAPOLIS-State Senator Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis) has been appointed to serve on a new commission established to create permanent safety regulations for outdoor stages. Taylor supported legislation earlier this year that called for the Outdoor Stage Equipment Safety Commission to review reports from the 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse and make recommendations for effective safety standards to prevent future tragedies.
Under Senate Enrolled Act 273, the state Fire Protection and Building Safety Commission was authorized to institute emergency rules for the inspection of outdoor stages so that temporary standards are in place while the commission completes its work and legislation is considered in 2013.
This year Taylor has also been appointed to serve on the Interim Study Committee on Driver Education, Commission on the Social Status of Black Males, Child Custody and Support Advisory Committee, Code Revision Commission, Criminal Code Evaluation Commission, and Interim Study Committee on Insurance.
The Indiana General Assembly annually convenes interim study committees and permanent commissions to conduct in-depth research and analysis of issues affecting the state. Recommendations from these committees are often the basis for future legislation. More information about committee topics, schedules and agendas is available online at www.IN.gov/legislative/interim.
