Truitt Honors State Champions
West Lafayette High School Football Team Recognized at Statehouse
STATEHOUSE-Rep. Randy Truitt (R-West Lafayette) today recognized the West Lafayette Red Devils High School football team at the Statehouse. The Red Devils finished an undefeated season (15-0, 6-0) claiming the Hoosier League Title and the 2009 Class 3A State Championship.
Rep. Truitt recognized the team and their head coach Marshall Overley with a resolution honoring their accomplishments on the floor of the House of Representatives.
"I am proud to honor the Red Devils from West Lafayette, a great group of young Hoosiers and student athletes," said Rep. Truitt. "They have a very proud tradition and a great head coach in Marshall Overley, and it's clear he's instilled a strong work ethic in his team. It is a privilege to have the Red Devils in our district and I congratulate them on an incredibly successful year."
Rep. Truitt also authored a separate resolution honoring Red Devil quarterback and 2009 Indiana Mr. Football, Daniel Wodicka. Wodicka was a three year starter at wide receiver before transitioning to the quarterback position his senior year. He completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,181 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 1,468 yards and 23 TDs. Along with his on field accomplishments, Wodicka posted 4.0 GPA his senior year and was his class' valedictorian.
"Daniel accomplished so much this year both on and off the field," said Rep. Truitt. "He and his family are valued members of our community. He was absolutely deserving of the Mr. Football distinction and I wish him well as he moves on to college this fall."
