Current base rates for the City of Auburn's municipal electric utility were approved in 1989. In the IURC's most recent survey of residential electric rates, Auburn Municipal Utility rates ranked lowest among the 14 electric utilities under IURC jurisdiction.

The city is seeking an electric base rate increase in IURC Cause No. 44472. It filed its petition (7 pages) and testimony (182 pages) on March 27, 2014, along with supplemental testimony (31 pages) on June 27, 2014.

The OUCC is reviewing the utility's request and has been given until July 30, 2014 to file testimony.

An IURC public field hearing was held on June 11 in Auburn. The OUCC issued a May 27 news release to invite public comments.

To review the case's public file, visit the IURC website and enter docket number 44472.

Auburn and other electric utilities are also allowed to adjust rates periodically through IURC proceedings, to recover wholesale power and fuel costs on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
