OUCC > Water/Sewer > Cases of Note > Kingsbury Utility Corp. Kingsbury Utility Corp.

Kingsbury Utility Corporation, which provides service in LaPorte County, is seeking water and sewer rate increases in Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) Cause Nos. 44589-U and 44590-U.

The utility's requests would change rates in 2 phases.

  • Under Kingsbury's proposal, monthly water rates for a residential customer using 5,000 gallons would rise from $18.75 to $43.90, then to $47.75 in the case's second phase.
  • The flat, monthly residential sewer rate would rise from $32.69 to $50.52 in the first phase, then to $61.29 in phase two.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) was scheduled to file recommendations on May 11, 2015 but has asked the Commission to suspend the deadline. A group of commercial customers has recently filed a petition to intervene in these cases, as has the LaPorte County Board of Commissioners.

An IURC public field hearing was held in LaPorte on April 21, 2015.

All publicly filed documents in these cases are available by visiting the IURC's Electronic Document System and entering docket number 44589 or 44590.

Kingsbury Utility Corp. was granted new financing authority for its water and sewer utilities in IURC Cause No. 44327. The IURC issued orders in the case on September 11, 2013 and December 3, 2014. The utility's current base water and sewer rates were approved in 2008.
