Less than One Month Remains to Make Teen Tech Week Preparations

The time has come to Check In @ your library! Registration for Teen Tech Week™, the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) annual celebration of digital literacy and technology via the library is now open. Teen Tech Week™ is March 10-16, 2013, with a theme of Check In @ your library, which encourages libraries to throw open their physical and virtual doors and showcase the outstanding technology they offer for teens and their families, from services such as online homework help and digital literacy-focused programs to resources like e-books, movies, music, audiobooks, databases and more.

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens gain the digital literacy skills they need—with the help of libraries—in order to be successful in school and prepared to participate in a 21st century workforce.

Black History Month Resources Available on INSPIRE

Biography In Context offers dozens of unique and comprehensive resources for Black History Month and is available free through INSPIRE. The "African Americans" topic portal provides easy access to biographies on prominent African Americans associated with the arts, business, current events, entertainment, government, history, literature, multicultural studies, politics, science, and sports.

Biography in Context delivers Gale's authoritative reference content of more than 600,000 biographies on more than 500,000 people gathered from more than 170 award-winning Gale reference sources. Most entries integrate enhanced content like video, audio, podcasts, interactives and more that provide a richer multi-media, online experience for today’s learners, educators and librarians.

NET LITERACY COMPUTERS
The Indiana State Library and Net Literacy are offering free, rebuilt public access computers. These computers are available to any public, school, or institutional library in Indiana. Please visit Net Literacy’s website to learn more about the organization and their efforts to improve digital literacy nationwide. Please complete this brief questionnaire by February 15th to request computers for your library.

OPEN POSITION AT THE STATE LIBRARY
The Indiana State Library is seeking candidates for its Professional Development Office Supervisor position (Job ID: 582978 – Apply by 2/19). Visit the State of Indiana Personnel Department’s job bank and reference each position’s respective Job ID # to apply or for more information.

IU-SLIS SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO NEW, CURRENT STUDENTS
Any new or continuing full-time or part-time student in the MLS or MIS degree program of the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at either Indiana University or IUPUI is eligible to apply for the $1000 Julieann V. Nilson scholarship. This includes students who have been admitted to SLIS, but who will commence their studies after the scholarship awardee(s) have been announced.  Guidelines and the application are available on the Nilson Scholarship webpage. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded this year. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2013. 

LSTA GRANT APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED UNTIL MARCH 15
The application process is now open for the 2013 LSTA grant program. Technology Grant, Digitization Grant and ongoing grant opportunities are available for Indiana libraries, and historical and cultural organizations. FEBRUARY IS LIBRARY LOVERS MONTH
Library Lovers' Month is a month-long celebration of school, public, and private libraries of all types. This is a time for everyone, especially library support groups, to recognize the value of libraries and to work to assure that the Nation's libraries will continue to serve. Summer Reading Workshops Scheduled in Feb., March

Throughout February and March, join Suzanne Walker, Indiana State Library Children's Services Consultant, for one of several Collaborative Summer Reading Program training sessions offered throughout the state. These three-hour workshops worth three LEUs will discuss different ways to structure your Summer Reading Programs, event ideas for all ages, and do 2-3 hands-on activities you can use this summer.
