The General Register Office is the central civil repository for records relating to Births, Deaths and Marriages in the Republic of Ireland. Marriage records other than Roman Catholic marriages date back to 1st April 1845. Records of Births, Deaths and Roman Catholic Marriages date back to 1st January 1864.  They do not do Genealogical or Family History research.

The Church of Ireland has parish registers which include: registers of baptism, marriage records, burial records, and vestry minutes.

They have some free access online databases which include: Index to Birth records County Antrim, & County Down, Index to Marriage records for county Antrim & County Down. They will be adding the Index to Death records in the near future. They also have more databases that can be accessed through membership.

They hold a list of occupiers of property for the entire country going back in some cases as early as 1846.
