Senate protocol for media visiting the Senate Chambers

Members of the media must identify themselves to the Senate doorkeepers with credentials issued by an employer or by the state.

The Senate provides the news media space in the back of the chambers to film, record audio, and take notes.

All cell phones must be on "manner mode" or turned off while in the Senate chambers.

Please be as discreet as possible when photographing senators. Do not use the center aisle while senators are speaking at the podium. Please stay along the walls of the chamber. Film crews should stay in the area behind the press seating or along the walls of the chamber.

    Information for interview requests

If the Senate is in session, please ask one of the Senate doormen to deliver a note to a legislator on the floor or contact the Senate Democrats Media Office to request an opportunity to speak with a legislator. Legislators may only be available for a few minutes while in session.

Please note that the Senate lounge located just outside the south side of the chambers is not available for conducting interviews with legislators. This area has been designated for legislators and their families or other private guests.

To request interviews during the interim or to schedule time for a formal interview, please contact the Senate Democrats Media Office.
