The new code provides for certainty in sentencing and keeps the most violent offenders in prison longer. Victims will be fully informed of how long the offender's sentence will actually be. HEA 1006 creates a qualified committee to thoroughly study the proposed rewrite of the Indiana Criminal Code. Another piece of legislation Rep. Steuerwald worked actively to pass was HEA 1053. HEA 1053 tightens loopholes in the sex registry to make sure the offender reports any changes in address or appearance to the local authorities.
Rep. Steuerwald was born on September 12, 1952, in Terre Haute, Indiana and resides in Avon, Indiana. He has three grown children: Joshua Garver, D.D.S.; Jordan Gorgievski, and Adam Steuerwald.
