Representative Hal Slager is a member of the 118th General Assembly freshman class.

In 1981, Rep. Slager graduated from Butler University and became a Certified Public Accountant. As a CPA he worked for a local accounting firm. His role there helped him gain the experience needed for his next opportunity, a position in corporate accounting with Melvin Simon and Associates.

Rep. Slager joined Trico Graphics in 1983. Upon arrival he sought to bring innovations and advancements to the company, eventually leading to a transition to electronic publishing. In 1996, Rep. Slager established the company as an exemplary business for design an internet production. Rep. Slager went on to establish Triangle Equities LLC, for real estate development and management in 1997.

During the 2013 session Rep. Slager authored two priority pieces of legislation for his community, House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1481 and 1585. HEA 1481 will grow Indiana's transportation industry by allowing overweight trucks to spread their loads over more axels. INDOT will work to adopt the appropriate rules and fees for the use of our roadways while remaining competitive for shippers. HEA 1585 will result in lower bills for all residents of Calumet Township, especially in Griffith. This legislation establishes maximum spending guidelines for administration of township assistance. In the event that the township cannot achieve the established budget restraint by 2015, HEA 1585 would allow the town of Griffith to join a different township with a lower tax rate. This legislation will give tax relief to all Calumet Township, lowering taxes and providing more assistance to those who need it most.

Before being elected as State Representative of House District 15, Rep. Slager served 10 years on the Schererville Town Council, twice a Council president and twice Utility Board president. As a State Representative he brings with him the experience of running local government during the national economic downturn. He worked to keep his community strong by reducing the government budget to meet the frozen levy, while increasing services and resolving flood issues.

Rep. Slager and his wife, Carol, have been married for 30 years and have two sons, Ryan and Collin. Rep. Slager is a runner and former marathoner, including the Boston Marathon twice. Rep. Slager is a member of the Calumet Region Striders, a local running club of 500 members, and has led three fundraising campaigns running for the Leukemia Society of America.
