A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating Colonel Jerry
Ross on the occasion of the designation of Main Street from
93rd Avenue South to Burrell Drive in Crown Point, Indiana as
"Jerry Ross Parkway".
Whereas, Jerry Ross was born on January 20, 1948, in
Crown Point, Indiana;
Whereas, Jerry Ross graduated from Crown Point High School in 1966 and received a bachelor of science and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue
University in 1970 and 1972 respectively;
Whereas, Colonel Ross, who was a ROTC student at
Purdue University, entered active duty with the United States
Air Force upon graduation and was assigned to the Ramjet
Engine Division of the Air Force Aero-Propulsion Laboratory
at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio;
Whereas, Colonel Ross graduated from the U.S. Air Force
Test Pilot School's Flight Test Engineer Course in 1976 and
was assigned to the 6510th Test Wing at Edwards Air Force
Base, California, where he was lead B-1 flying qualities flight
test engineer;
Whereas, Colonel Ross has flown in 21 different types of
aircraft, holds a private pilot's license, and has logged over
3,100 flying hours, most of which have been in military
aircraft;
Whereas, In February, 1979, Colonel Ross was assigned to
the Payload Operations Division at the Lyndon B. Johnson
Space Center where he was responsible for the flight
operations integration of payloads into the Space Shuttle;
Whereas, Colonel Ross was selected for the astronaut
program in May, 1980;
Whereas, Colonel Ross is a veteran of six space flights with
over 1,000 hours in space, including 44 hours and 9 minutes on
seven spacewalks;
Whereas, Colonel Ross is currently the Astronaut Office
Branch Chief for EVA (spacewalks); and
Whereas, Crown Point is justifiably proud of its native son
and honors him by designating Main Street from 93rd Avenue
South to Burrell Drive in Crown Point, Indiana as "Jerry Ross
Parkway": Therefore,
