The Indiana Tax Court hires law clerks to work directly with the Judge of the Court. The law clerk is expected to do research, write memoranda, review draft orders and opinions, and assist in preparing preliminary draft opinions. Law clerks will work individually, as a team with fellow clerks, and directly with the Judge. The Tax Court hears certain cases as a trial court so clerks are expected to assist in the administration of the courtroom procedure, write bench memos, research procedural issues, and understand the Rules of Evidence. In addition, the law clerk will be involved in the rich history and traditions of the Tax Court as well as the full Indiana Judicial system and will participate in challenging discussions of contemporary law and events that make up the fabric of our legal system.
Salary & Benefits. The law clerk will receive an annual salary of approximately $57,000. The law clerk will receive benefits similar to all state employees. Upon mutual agreement, a clerk may be retained for a second year.
