Overview

Ivy Tech LogoThe Indiana Supreme Court Judicial Technology and Automation Committee (JTAC) has partnered with the Ivy Tech State College to provide computer training at Ivy Tech's 26 regional locations throughout Indiana for all judicial employees in the state, including employees of city and town courts. This arrangement has been made to assist courts and county clerks in taking advantage of the many technology tools available to them currently and in the future. Since JTAC plans many advances that will require familiarity with computers and the Internet, JTAC strongly encourages judges, clerks and their staff to take advantage of this educational opportunity. JTAC so strongly believes in this effort, it will cover the entire cost.

Since JTAC began this program in late 2001, hundreds of judicial employees from around the state have participated and have provided JTAC with a great deal of positive feedback regarding the value of the program. Initially, judges were also given the opportunity to have one-on-one training in chambers, given by a representative from Technical Youth. JTAC's Technical Youth program is no longer available, but the Ivy Tech program offers similar training in a classroom atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions About JTAC's Ivy Tech Training Program

Who is eligible? Trial court judges of courts of record and their employees and elected circuit court clerks and their employees (i.e., judges, magistrates, commissioners, court reporters, court administrators). Staff from city and town courts are also eligible. If in doubt of your eligibility, please contact Mary Kronoshek at (317) 234-2710 or mailto:mkronosh@jtac.in.gov.

Are senior judges eligible? Yes. Please note that if you are 65 years or older and an Indiana citizen you are probably already eligible for free classes at Ivy Tech. To learn more about this opportunity please contact Mary Kronoshek at (317) 234-2710 or mkronoshek@jtac.in.gov.

What classes are available? Ivy Tech offers a variety of courses under this program, starting with an introductory class on using computers and proceeding to advanced classes on several Microsoft Office programs. Specifically, the following programs will be taught (click on the course name to learn more about that product):

Where are the class locations? Ivy Tech branches are located throughout the state of Indiana, and you should contact the representative nearest you for class availability and times. For a listing of Ivy Tech locations, visit their website at http://www.ivytech.edu/campuses/.

How do I enroll in classes? You can enroll in classes by first filling out the Ivy Tech enrollment form and printing it on court letterhead. After the form has been signed by a judge or circuit court clerk, send it to the appropriate IvyTech representative for your region. Ivy Tech will forward course invoices directly to JTAC for payment. Note that if you are an employee of a city or town court, you must first contact Mary Kronoshek at at mkronoshek@jtac.in.gov or (317) 234-2710 before submitting this enrollment form to Ivy Tech.

What about the cost of books? JTAC will also pay the price of the standard books that are included in the course. After you successfully complete the course, the books will become a resource for you to use in your workplace when you need to recall what you learned in class.

I am interested in taking courses online. Can I do this? At the present time, online computer courses are not available via JTAC.

What is the duration of this educational opportunity? JTAC will reevaluate this new program every few months to determine its success. It is however, our expectation that this program will be ongoing as long as there is funding.
