The Clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Tax Court accepts filings at the following location:

Reminder. Starting January 1, 2014, the Notice of Appeal CAN ONLY be filed with the Clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Tax Court.  The two-year grace period allowing the filing of the Notice of Appeal with either the trial court clerk or the appellate court clerk ends on December 31, 2013.  Notices of Appeal incorrectly submitted for filing with the trial court clerk on or after January 1, 2014 will not be effective to initiate an appeal or satisfy the Notice of Appeal filing deadlines specified in Appellate Rule 9(A).


Hours and Holidays. The Clerk's office is open 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on State holidays. View a list of State holidays.

Filings. Documents are considered filed, for timeliness purposes, when they are deposited in the U.S. mail, postage prepaid and properly addressed to the Clerk's Office; when they are deposited with any third-party commercial carrier for delivery to the Clerk within three calendar days, costs prepaid and properly addressed; or when they are delivered personally to the Clerk's Office. During regular business hours, personal delivery of filings are made to Room 216 of the State House. Those wishing to file papers after hours directly with the Clerk may do so by depositing them in the Rotunda Filing Drop Box, located inside the State House's second-floor east entrance vestibule. Directions for use of the Rotunda Filing Drop Box are located at the box itself. See App. R. 23(A).

Copy Requirements. The Indiana Rules of Appellate Procedure require the following:

  • For the Notice of Appeal, Appearances, Motion for Extension of Time, Motion to Withdraw Record, Motion to Withdraw Appearance, or Motion to File Oversized Document, an original and one (1) copy.
  • For all other motions and supporting documents, responses to motions and supporting documents, and replies to responses and supporting documents, an original and five (5) copies.
  • For all Briefs, Addenda to Briefs, Notices of Additional Authorities, and Petitions for Rehearing, Transfer or Review, an original and eight (8) copies.
  • For Appendices, one (1) copy only.

Extra copies submitted will be filemarked and returned, provided a self-addressed envelope stamped with sufficient postage is submitted with the copies.

Formatting of filed documents. Please refer to the Indiana Rules of Appellate Procedure for specific formatting instructions.

Public Record. All documents filed with the Clerk are public records unless they are excluded from public access via Administrative Rule 9.

Filing Fees. Upon filing the Notice of Appeal with the Clerk, see App.R. 9(E), the appellant must pay a filing fee of $250 to the Clerk of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Tax Court.  Upon the filing of a Petition to Transfer a case to the Supreme Court, or upon a filing for review of a Tax Court case by the Supreme Court, the petitioner must pay a fee of $125. See App.R. 56(B).   The filing fee for Tax Court cases is $120.00.

The Clerk of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and Tax Court charges the following fees for its miscellaneous services:

$50.00 CD containing documents over 120 pages
Requests for CDs containing documents over 400 pages or from multiple cases will be subject to additional charges to be determined in the Clerk's discretion.

The Clerk's Office charges an additional fee of $1.00 per document to certify the document.

For payments by credit card, the following schedule of convenience fees will apply:

Payments must be received by the Clerk before copies will be provided. In addition, the Clerk is authorized to require payment in advance for applicable postage charges when documents are sent via U.S. mail or private carrier.
