Need a substance abuse education course or assessment from an Indiana certified provider?

Follow these two easy steps:

Step 1:  Use the Indiana Judicial Center (IJC) program directory to determine if the county you live in has an IJC-certified provider; if so, call the program and find out if the program can provide the services you need.

Step 2:  If your county does not have an IJC-certified provider, or the program in you county cannot provide the services you need, call the Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) referral line at 1-800-662-4357.  You may also find a substance abuse treatment provider through the national provider locator. If you are a commercial driver license holder, such as a truck driver, and need addiction services approved by the Department of Transportation, use DOT’s online provider locator

Things to Know

The IJC certifies court-based substance abuse interventions.  In Indiana there are 55 counties that operate IJC-certified programs; approximately 50% of these programs, however, are probation based and do not accept individuals for services unless the individuals are also on probation in their county.  IJC-certified programs may perform a limited assessment and offer substance abuse education and information courses ranging from 8-20 hours for clients referred from the criminal justice system.  Individuals are only eligible for IJC-certified program services if they have a prior charge or conviction for a substance abuse related offense, or where substance use was a contributing factor in committing an offense.  Additionally, most programs require individuals to have a limited assessment prior to placing them in a substance abuse education or information course.

Indiana’s DMHA certifies mental health and substance abuse treatment providers.  DMHA- certified providers may offer individuals a comprehensive mental health/substance abuse assessment, intensive out-patient therapy, group therapy, or substance abuse education/information courses.
