System Requirements

It is recommended that you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader version 8 or newer installed on your computer to complete a Fillable Adobe PDF form. Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 is recommended because it is the most compatible version for completing fillable PDF forms. Download the free Adobe Reader.

How to Complete a Fillable PDF

Once the PDF form is open in your web browser, you may enter information into the form's fields using your mouse and keyboard. None of the information you enter is collected by the judiciary. If you prefer to complete the form or application by hand, simply print the PDF as you would any other to do so.

  1. To begin, simply point your mouse to the first fillable field in the document and click to show a cursor in the field. Type your response, and then use the TAB button on your keyboard to advance to the next field (use SHIFT+TAB to return to a previous field). Or, point your mouse to the next fillable field to show a cursor in the next field.
  2. Areas of a form that use check boxes, radio buttons, or drop-down menus are easier to use with your mouse alone and not your keyboard. Simply click on the check box or radio button corresponding to your response or, in the case of a drop-down menu, click the downward arrow at the right of the field to display the possible responses, and then select your response from the predetermined list. See examples of check boxes, radio buttons, and drop down menus at right so you can easily identify them.
  3. When you have reached the last field in the form, be certain you either hit the TAB button on your keyboard or click anywhere on the form outside of a fillable field to exit the last field. If you do not exit the last field before you print, the information in that field will not print.

How to Submit a Fillable PDF

Fillable PDF forms cannot be saved with the information you entered included in the saved file. The purpose of these forms is to allow you to type your responses to the questions in the form or application and then print the form to be submitted via traditional mail or fax (depending on the requirements specific to each form). Fillable PDF forms cannot be emailed or submitted via some other electronic means.

Once you have finished filling out the form, you should print the form and be sure to complete any additional fields that don't allow typed responses (such as your signature, date signed, notary signature, etc.). Then treat the form as you would if you had completed it by hand.
