IURC APPROVES CERTIFICATE OF TERRITORIAL AUTHORITY FOR CONSUMERS INDIANA
Today in Cause No. 42190, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved an which allows Illinois based Consumers Indiana to provide water and sewer service in a rural area of Lake County, Indiana. A stipulation between the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor and the company is included in the order.
The area to be served is located in the Prairie Trials sub-division. The utility expects to serve 580 customers. The monthly charge for water rates will be a flat charge of $5.95, plus the usage charges of $3.87 per 1,000 gallons for the first 10,000 gallons and $1.66 per 1,000 gallons once usage exceeds 10,000 gallons. Sewer service to single family residential uses is set at $45.07 per month.
Indiana law requires the utility to use 5/8 inch meters for residential customers. Also the company shall provide a toll-free telephone number to be answered during regular business hours and an after hours answering service to insure that customers have access to the utility at all times.
Consumers Indiana is an Indiana corporation, with its principal business address in Kankakee, Illinois. Its principal owner is Philadelphia Suburban Corporation, which provides water and wastewater utility service to nearly 2-million residents in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, Maine and North Carolina.
