Indiana State Police

Firearms Licensing

Thank you for contacting the Indiana State Police Firearms Section.  Please see the below information regarding your application for a handgun license.

The NEW Indiana Firearms License Card and application process is now available!

View the instructional videos below to learn more about the new process!

New Applicants
Returning Applicants/Licensees (Duplicate)
Firearms Dealers

The new hard plastic license card is OPTIONAL.
Your current paper license remains valid until the expiration date shown on the existing license.

If you are a current Indiana firearms license holder wanting the new version of the Indiana Handgun License (Plastic Card), please click the Returning Applicants/Licensees link to the left to request a duplicate license in the new card format. There will be a $20.00 processing fee for the request. You will also be subject to a new criminal history background check, which could delay the issuance of your new license.  However, you will NOT be required to take new fingerprints.

For NEW applications, if there are no mistakes on your application and you have no criminal history, your license should be issued within 60 days from the time your local authority submitted your application to ISP.

Visit the links on the left side of this page to learn more about firearms permits and how to avoid delays in the application process.

Check the status of your application online at https://firearms.ariesportal.com/.

*Please note: The online payment service is provided through a partnership between the State of Indiana and its online service provider. A processing fee of $1.00 plus 2% of the transaction amount is added to the price of the service, as outlined in Indiana Code 4-13.1-2-4. For applicants who do not want to use the online service, an alternate payment plan has been provided for you.
