ISDT > Blood Sampling Blood Sampling

Most samples for our lab are taken using kits provided by the Indiana State Department of Toxicology. Other types of sample presentation are acceptable, but the kits are designed to provide the best protection for the samples and the chain of custody for them.

The kits include two blood tubes that are evacuated for ease of sampling (like most blood tubes used today). The tubes have a capacity of about 10 milliliters (mL), and contain two powder reagents to help maintain blood stability between sampling and testing. The reagents are 100 milligrams (mg) of Sodium Fluoride and 20 mg of Potassium Oxalate.

Each kit also contains a urine sampling bottle (50 mL), protective packaging, seals, labels, instructions for use, and a Toxicology Analysis Form.

Refer to the Toxicology Analysis Request Instructions and Form for more details.
