Audiology Services at the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education

Infant Hearing Screening and Diagnostic Evaluations

Infants who had a homebirth or did not have universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) prior to discharge from a hospital or birthing facility may have this screening completed at the Center by referral of a hospital, birth facility, pediatrician or Indiana’s Early Hearing Detection & Intervention (EHDI) coordinators. This will be a half-hour long appointment.

Infants may be seen for a diagnostic audiological evaluation if they have been referred by a hospital or birthing facility due to UNHS results or other risk factors. This will be a two- hour long appointment.

First Steps Hearing Evaluations

Children ages birth to 3 years of age may be referred for a hearing evaluation to rule out hearing issues due to concerns with speech language development or middle ear fluid issues

Hearing Evaluation appointments are generally one-hour long

A referral from the First Steps Service Coordinator may be made to Angela Hull at the phone number, fax number, and email address listed at the top of this page.

SRNDHH Audiology and Hearing Aid Services

Children in First Steps who are identified as Deaf and Hard of Hearing may be enrolled into the Statewide Referral Network for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children (SRN-DHH) to receive audiology and hearing aid services

Angela Hull is a First Steps and SRNDHH provider who can provide hearing aid evaluation, hearing aid fitting, and other hearing aid services.

The process for authorization SRNDHH Audiology Hearing Aid services will involve receiving a medical clearance from a pediatric Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) physician and receiving authorization from First Steps.

School-Age Audiological Evaluations or Consultations

Students, ages 3 to 21 years, who present with concerns with hearing issues may be referred to the Center for an audiological evaluation by referral from a physician or the local education agency (LEA)

Audiological consultations may be available upon referral from the LEA

An audiologist may participate in the School Assessment team for multi-disciplinary evaluations of students referred by the LEA
