The Indiana State Department of Health and the Oral Health program, in efforts to promote, protect and provide for the oral health of the residents of Indiana, support several oral health related programs throughout the state. Listed below are these programs and some information about them.

Indiana Donated Dental Services

Indiana Donated Dental Services is part of a national program, Dental Lifeline Network, which provides dental care to the disabled, elderly or medically at-risk patients. In Indiana, Donated Dental Services provides comprehensive treatment to eligible patients. To be eligible for services, you must lack adequate income to pay for dental care and be permanently disabled, or medically at-risk, or 65 years old or older. Therefore, Indiana provides funds to the program to assist disabled, aged or residents of Indiana, unable to afford dental care or to obtain care through public aid, or people with seriously neglected oral health problems who have no other way of obtaining needed care.

Amish Dental

The Amish Dental Intervention is a project started and funded through the Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center. The Indiana Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center provides dental services to the dentally underserved or neglected population of Amish children and children from low-income families, in northern Indiana. The Amish Intervention aims to increase access to dental care and provide direct services, such as prevention, dental education, and monitoring of fluoridation.

SEAL Indiana

SEAL INDIANA is a statewide mobile dental program that provides preventive oral health services for children who do not have adequate access to dental care. This is a program that was started by the Indiana University School of Dentistry, in part through funds from the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). The program works to locate children state-wide who are not receiving dental care, provide oral exams, apply sealants and fluoride varnishes, and help families locate dental homes. In addition, this program provides opportunities for dental school students to gain experience in these areas of dentistry.

Children’s Special Health Care Services*

Indiana Children’s Special Health Care Services provides supplemental medical coverage to help families of children who have serious, chronic medical conditions, age birth to 21 years of age, who meet the program’s financial and medical criteria,  and pays for treatment related to their child’s condition. This program is aimed at keeping families together and to help those children with special healthcare needs thrive.

Indiana Family Helpline*

The Indiana Family Helpline is a statewide comprehensive resource for residents. The aim of the Indiana Family Helpline is to address questions of Indiana residents. Caller’s needs are assessed by trained Communication Specialists, and callers are referred to an appropriate community resource. The Communication Specialists provide information, referrals, consumer education, advocacy and follow-up to individual callers on a variety of topics including early prenatal and child health care; accessing Medicaid and WIC providers; locating emergency housing, food pantries, utility assistance, dental care, transportation; and connecting callers with literacy, vocational and GED programs.

* The Oral health Program does not provide funding to these programs. However, we support the efforts of these programs as they relate to oral health and those they serve.
