The Indiana State Department of Health’s (ISDH) mission is to promote and provide essential public health services. ISDH’s vision is a healthier and safer Indiana. ISDH holds several core values consistent with its mission and vision: health promotion and prevention; vaccines providing for those who can’t afford; equitable care-community health centers; vital records; health protection; collaboration with local health departments; data collection, analysis, and information dissemination; and evidence-based best practices for public health promotion, training and health care quality.
In addition to the above mission, vision, and goals, ISDH is committed to a quality improvement (QI) program as a proven way to enhance the agency’s performance and achieve desired results. A high-performing, quality improvement-centered agency changes the way in which business is accomplished by actively:

· Utilizing data to analyze problems and performance concerns
· Involving employees who know the issue and will be most impacted by the improvement opportunity

Quality Improvement and performance management are continuous cycles of measurement, analysis, improvement and reporting
ISDH senior leadership sets direction for the organization through the strategic planning process. ISDH's strategic plan provides a clear vision of ISDH as it sees itself in the future; a mission that clearly expresses the reason the ISDH exists and for whom; as well as goals, objectives, strategies, and performance measures which will help guide the agency toward its vision in clear, incremental, and achievable steps.

3. Reduce administrative cost through improving operational efficiencies
4. Recruitment, evaluation, and retention of top talent in public health
5. Better use of information and data from electronic sources to develop and sponsor outcome-driven programs
