House of Thaller, Inc. of Knoxville, TN is voluntarily recalling an additional 11,177 pounds of dips containing Smoked Salmon because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The Listeria contamination was traced to hot smoked Salmon supplied to House of Thaller and used as an ingredient in these dips. The products were distributed to AL, AR, CO, GA, IL, KS, KY, MI, MO, MS, NC, NE, OH, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV and WY.
