The department maintains the list below of TNI that have been approved.  With each technology that has been approved, a link is provided to the department standards for that technology.  These standards are the basis for plan review, construction approvals, training, design and installation, and operation and maintenance (O&M), if applicable.

Information is grouped under four technology categories: "Components," "Secondary Treatment Units," "Soil Absorption Fields," and "Pretreatment Devices,"

Each listing includes the following:

  • Manufacturer information (listed alphabetically by manufacturer's name);
  • The name of the technology;
  • Its status: general approval, conditional approval, and project-by-project approval;
  • Date of approval;
  • Description of the technology;
  • Brief comments regarding the approval; and
  • A link to the standards  that are the basis for plan review, construction approvals, training, design and installation, and operation and maintenance (O&M), when applicable.

    Components

    Onsite system components are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Components may include distribution boxes, distribution devices, siphons, pressure manifolds, etc.

    Description: Automatic dosing siphons for small flood dose systems, typically used in place of a pump on sites where electricity is not available.

    Description: D-box of molded polypropylene with two parts: housing (basin/cover) and diverter. Bubble level allows for post installation adjustments to equalize flow to five lines.

    Secondary Treatment Systems

    The use of secondary treatment systems in Indiana must comply with the requirements in the Indiana Standards for Secondary Treatment Systems. Secondary treatment systems are reviewed by the department after submittal by a manufacturer or system integrator (SI).

    For the repair, remediation or replacement of an existing residential onsite soil absorption field, the use of a secondary treatment unit must comply with the applicable requirements in , and the requirements in the

    Technology: Fusion ATU

    Description: Recirculating treatment system made from fiberglass reinforced plastic having four chambers: sedimentation, anaerobic, aeration, and storage; the unit is undergoing testing by NSF for Standard 40 certification.
    Technology: Recirculating Gravel Filter.
    Status: Project-by-project approval.
    Description: Recirculating gravel filter with a bed of gravel to treat effluent with organisms that live on the media (80% of effluent is recirculated for additional treatment). Numerous sizes are available to accommodate a range of loading and site requirements.
    Technology: Z-Cell Wetland
    Status: Project-by-project approval
    Description: The Z-Cell is a constructed wetland that manages the inflow of effluent using time dosing and uniform application to the bottom of the treatment cell. Effluent moves vertically through the horizontally-oriented plant root zone to provide treatment.

    Soil Absorption Fields

    The department has general standards for some soil absorption field TNI. Other technologies are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The use of these technologies in Indiana must comply with the requirements in the standards or approval.
