Infant and Child Health Services
Goal
Maintain MCHS infant/child health clinics that are uniquely designed to meet the health and psychosocial needs of those children who do not have a regular source of preventive health care, for those who are at risk for developing life-long disabling conditions, and for those children who would become victims of abuse or neglect. Parenting education is a major focus of MCHS child health providers.
Extent of Problem

The health status of Indiana children ages birth to 21 years and their families, especially those children who are medically underserved needs to improve.

Health services are needed to decrease the infant mortality rate, increase immunization levels, enhance child development, prevent child abuse and neglect, promote good nutritional status, and improve parental skills.
Objectives
Provide a wide range of preventive and primary health services including vision, hearing, and developmental screening, treatment of minor illnesses, lead screening, referral for chronic health problems, physical exams, immunizations, nutritional assessment and counseling, psychosocial assessment and intervention, dental screening and referral, and health education.
Funding:
The Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant provides partial funding for 22 projects serving approximately 55,000 infants and children.
