Certified Nurse Aide: Training, Certification & Recertification and Registration

IMPORTANT NOTE - 3/12/2020

*** ISDH is aware of the concerns in regards to COVID-19 and the limited access training entities have for students to complete their clinical hours.  Please remember that 16 hours of clinical may be completed in a lab environment.  However, due to the health and safety of Indiana Hoosiers we are supporting facilities in the decisions they are making to keep their residents safe.  We understand this  may cause Training Program’s to extend and postpone clinical hours completion for a period of time.  We will take into consideration and not hold training entities responsible for extending the training process.

Program Overview

The Certified Nurse Aide: Training, Certification & Recertification and Registration Program ensures that individuals meet both the state and federal requirements for a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and are on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry.  This program is administered by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), Consumer Services & Health Care Regulation Commission, Division of Survey Supports & Guidance.

A certified nurse aide is an individual who works primarily in long term care facilities or nursing homes.  The CNA assists residents with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, or eating.  A CNA works under the direct supervision of licensed practical nurse or registered nurse and can perform only procedures that are within the scope of practice for a CNA.

Hours
Office hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Walk-ins are welcome from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.  During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Nurse Aide Registry is closed to the public.
