Helpful Hints in Making Adjustments in ERM

The following examples will walk you through the process of making adjustments in ERM.

Example #1: Contributions were not originally withheld and never reported to INPRS. The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA) related make up of wage and contribution information is a good example of such an adjustment.

If wage and contribution information was not originally withheld from a member’s paycheck and never reported to INPRS, an adjustment in ERM may be necessary. It can be included in your regular wage and contribution file with your next pay date.

When completing an adjustment using the file upload feature:

  • the period start and end dates should match the dates the contributions would have been withheld from a member’s paycheck,
  • the adjustment should be paid for using the current pay date, and
  • the transactions on the file should be coded as an “A”.

When completing an adjustment using online entry:

  • the period start and end dates must be the same dates the contributions would have been withheld from a member’s paycheck,
  • the transaction must be entered as an adjustment, and
  • the adjustment must be paid on the current payroll date.

Example #2: Contributions were originally withheld but not reported to INPRS.

If the wage and contribution information was withheld from a member’s paycheck but not reported to INPRS, you will need to report the information using the:

  • “By Member - for missed regular Wage and Contribution information” in ERM,
  • original pay period start and end dates, and
  • original payroll date

This information should not be reported on the normal payroll file.
