INDOT manages more than 28,000 lane miles, including interstates, U.S. routes, state roads and other roadways.
INDOT interstate highways carry 22 percent of Indiana’s traffic every day, despite making up only 1.2 percent of Indiana’s road network. INDOT’s roadways carry about 50 percent of all Indiana traffic, despite comprising only about 12 percent of all public roads in the state.
INDOT also manages and maintains more than 5,300 bridges and another 8,700 small structures (such as culverts spanning more than four feet).
Each year, INDOT invests more than $1 billion in construction projects across the state. Work on many projects is completed on time and under budget. Utilizing new technologies, innovative procurement, employee expertise, and strong management to reduce costs and stretch Hoosier taxpayer dollars, INDOT is building high-quality structures that will pay dividends for decades to come.
