Throughout their experience, each client is provided many opportunities to learn and practice skills and abilities needed to perform a successful employment search and plan retention strategies to avoid self-inflicted unemployment. The culmination of the programs is scoring an 80% or above on  the Completion Package which includes a 2 to 3 hour CAP-Stone Exam and Essay, Cover Letter and Resume, Detailed Employment Application, as well as a fully developed Career Action Plan.

Because of the IDOC staff and offender facilitators who have taken this on and believe in the power of challenging individuals to be the best they can be, as of November, 2013 there have been 60 Career Development Training completions resulting in the award of 127 months of credit time which equates to $195,567 tax dollars saved. In addition, there are people being released who have computer skills that didn't previously and who are prepared for not only their job search but also to handle barriers to job retention which may come their way.
