PEN workers positively impact the recidivism rate.
To employ offenders in meaningful jobs, to provide them with a work ethic,
job skills and career development. To operate in a self-sustaining manner.

Offender's jobs are one key to safer, better maintained prisons because they reduce idleness - a major factor in violence and vandalism. Job skills and work ethic developed in prison contribute to improved post-release results.

PEN provides Commissary services for all offenders in the Indiana Department of Correction.Offenders also work in a number of joint ventures with private industry.
