Education programs broadly defined are programs geared toward helping an offender increase their skills and develop resources to deal more effectively with stressors and/or improve their functioning in a variety of areas (academic, social, occupational). These programs generally target an individual’s strengths, resources, and coping skill development as a means to mitigate the chance of recidivism. Educational program components vary depending on the specific issue targeted and generally encompass some form of providing information, support, assistance, and empowerment. Education programs generally fall into four categories including academic, vocational education, and life skills based programs.
