Volunteers serve in the following areas and programs below: educational programming, religious services, community outreach, recreation, and family preservation.
The Purposeful Living Units Serve (PLUS) program is a faith and character-based community within the facility. The emphasis of this voluntary initiative focuses on strengthening spiritual moral and character development as well as life-skills. Volunteers are needed to provide mentoring to offenders and facilitate the classes.
The Mosquito Nets program uses supplies donated from the community to fashion mosquito nets to send to communities around the world. These nets are essential to the fight against malaria. Volunteers are needed for supplies and program assistance.
The Indiana Canine Assistance Network (ICAN) meets two important needs in our communities: (a) providing children and adults living with a disability greater independence and an opportunity for a more enriched life by partnering them with a service dog and (b) preparing offenders to return to our communities better equipped to successfully reintegrate with their families and obtain a job. Volunteers are needed to assist with the program. http://www.in.gov/idoc/2359.htm
The Wee Ones Nursery provides education and ensures quality time to strengthen the mother-infant bond during the initial months of the infant’s birth. The program includes ongoing training of the mothers in child development and attachment. Volunteers are needed to assist with the program. http://www.in.gov/idoc/2857.htm
Religious services needs are: modern language and large print bibles, greeting cards for all occasions and all ages.
For Community Outreach, fabric of all kinds, sewing notions, thread, batting and stuffing for quilts for the homeless, yarn and all crafting items, journals without spiral binding, pens and pencils, unopened or new hygiene items. Monetary donations are always welcome.
Baby needs such as bottles, formula, and diapers, please contact Wendi Middleton at 317-244-3387 ext. 432 or email@example.com for specifics.
Donations cannot be specified for particular offenders. They must be available for the general population. Contact Tammy Atwood for approval for donations. Once donations are approved items can be dropped off at the facility on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Request for Donation form can be filled out when donations are dropped off.
Criminal background checks must have the original signatures, so they must be hand carried to the facility. Place the application in the volunteer locked box at the front lobby and to the attention of the Community Involvement Coordinator.
