The Indiana Regional Water & Sewer District Guide has been created to help Hoosiers and local governments: understand the process of district creation; provide information about district formation; and, how regional districts can positively impact citizen’s health and the environment. Regional districts can be created to maintain water supplies, sewer systems and solid waste management plans. Regional sewer and water districts work to handle drinking and wastewater infrastructure throughout the state. Forming regional districts in communities without drinking water and sewer systems allows localities to provide these public services in an efficient and cost-effective manner. As a unit of government, regional districts provide opportunities for its members to apply for grants and low-interest loans needed to plan and build necessary facilities, allowing the district, and citizens, to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in interest payments.
IDEM hopes that you find this guide to be a valuable tool. Videos have been developed to accompany the guide; however, these videos are only available on the CD-ROM version of the guide. To request a CD-ROM copy of the guide, please contact, Lynne Newlon at (800) 451-6027 ext. 3-0476.
