Water Quality

Drinking water, waste water, storm water and wetlands are managed through IDEM’s permitting programs

  • If your place of business provides drinking water;
  • If you're planning new or improved drinking water or waste water service for your customers;
  • If you operate drinking water or waste water treatment facilities;
  • If you treat or process waste water from an industrial facility;
  • If you are responsible for controlling storm water run-off at a construction site or an established place of business; or,
  • If you have project plans that involve working in water or wetlands, you may need to obtain a permit, approval or certification through IDEM's Office of Water Quality.

The Office of Water Quality portion of this guide will help business owners and operators, and members of the general public gain a better understanding of the water quality permitting programs that help protect Hoosiers and our environment. The guide should not be viewed as an interpretation of, or used as a substitution for federal or state environmental regulations. Topics are arranged alphabetically.
