The Natural Resource Co-Trustees representing Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM); Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS); and Indiana Department of Natural Resources invite public comments on the Draft Natural Resource Damage Restoration Plan for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment Settlement associated with the I. Jones Recycling, Inc., Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. The restoration plan outlines general alternatives considered to address injuries to natural resources resulting from a release of hazardous materials from the facility (formally located at 3651 North Clinton Street, Fort Wayne) during a spill incident in 1985 and a fire during 1986.
The Trustees have tentatively selected the alternative: Restoration of resources impacted by the site or that will serve as compensation for injured resources through acquisition, rehabilitation and protection of equivalent resources. The alternative would restore the injured resources and the services they provided by increasing the occurrence of and/or enhancing or restoring habitats that will support these services. No specific habitat restoration project or habitat acquisition has been identified at this time.
