This is an exciting time for women in Indiana. In just nine short years, the country will be celebrating 100 years of women’s right to vote. It is time to appreciate how far women have come, understand where women are today and what still needs to be done, and envision what women’s full participation would look like on that centennial milestone.
This is also an exciting time for the Indiana Commission for Women. This year, ICW will mark 15 years of service to the women of Indiana. Since the beginning, ICW has been committed to the full participation of women in all aspects of society n order to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family. Today, we are working to keep moving Indiana women forward by amplifying their voices in the public sector.
We continue to raise awareness of women’s needs and concerns and celebrate their contributions and successes. We continue to encourage women to become better educated to compete successfully for high-skilled, high-paying jobs. We strive to keep women better connected to opportunities and resources available to them in their communities and throughout Indiana. And, we hope women will be more engaged as leaders in solving the challenges they face.
Join us and together, we can keep moving Indiana women forward.
Kristin Svyantek Garvey
Executive Director
The Indiana Commission for Women (ICW) is committed to the full participation of women in all aspects of society in order to make Indiana a better place to live, work and raise a family.
We work to remove the barriers that hinder women's participation by:
Increasing awareness of the status of women and their families and the issus they face;
Recognizing and promoting the contributions that Hoosier women make to their community, state and nation; and
Providing balanced analysis of public policy issues that impact women in Indiana.
We are the conduit between women and the services provided by state government in order to:
Voice the needs and viewpoints of women; and
Ensure that women play a representative role in resolving the challenges they face.
Our mission is to understand the needs of Indiana Women and their families, and to work strategically both within government and in our communities to help bring about positive solutions.
