2013 Torchbearer Award Recipients:

The 2013 Torchbearer Awards Program was held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in the Indiana Government Center North Builiding's Auditorium. The following women were honored (click on each recipient's name for a profile):

Shanel Poole of Indianapolis received the Young Woman of Promise Award, Nancy King of South Bend and Virginia O’Connor of Evansville received the Heart of Indiana Award and Sr. Jeanne Hagelskamp of Indianapolis received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her continuous work to ensure that young women and men have access to a quality education so that they have a better chance to succeed throughout their lives.

About the Awards

The Torchbearer Awards were created by the Indiana Commission for Women (ICW) to recognize Hoosier women who have overcome or removed barriers to equality or whose achievements have contributed to making our state a better place in which to live, work and raise a family.  Recipients are women who have been pioneers in their industries, have inspirational stories that set the standard for other women, have faced tough choices, demonstrated character and have made significant contributions to their communities and/or to the State of Indiana. To learn more about all of the Torchbearer Award recipients, visit:
