Indianapolis-The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council and the Bureau of Jewish Education announced today that the 14th Annual Holocaust Observance and Youth Summit will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Indianapolis.

The program will begin with more than 300 students, grades 6-8, gathering at the Indiana Government Center auditorium where they will be engaged in several programs led by Miles Roger, Director, of the Bureau of Jewish Education.

Following the morning session and lunch, students will travel to the Indiana Statehouse for a tour and the 12:00 pm program titled “Remembering the Holocaust: Lessons Learned.”

The Statehouse program, which is free and open to the public, will be highlighted by a keynote address by Madene Shachar, Director of the English Speakers Desk at the International Department of the Ghetto Fighter’s House in Israel. Cantor Janice Roger of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation will provide music and there will be a ceremonial lighting of the candles.

The program will include remarks by Todd Maurer, President of the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council, Clayton Graham, Esq., Chairperson of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission and Jamal L. Smith, Executive Director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission.
