In May of 1991, Cam Stewart Weber, of Terre Haute, Indiana, completed a project sponsored by the Clay Community School Corporation, of Knightsville, Indiana; the chief product of that collaboration was a retention schedule covering basic school records. This proved both useful and popular, achieving wide distribution in Indiana.
In order to keep the schedule current and up to date, the Clay Community School Corporation, along with the Indiana Department of Education, made plans in 1994 to revise the schedule. Noraleen Young, of Indianapolis, undertook the task. Upon its completion and because of its importance, the Indiana State Archives agreed to make the text available over the Internet.
