Governor Frank O'Bannon has appointed Richard "Rich" Richey to the Thoroughbred Development Advisory Committee.
Richey has been an owner and breeder of thoroughbreds for nearly twenty years. An active participant in the state's breeding industry, Richey co-founded and served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Thoroughbred Owner's and Breeder's Association (ITOBA) and served on the board of directors for the Indiana chapter of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protection Association (HBPA). Richey was recognized by the national Thoroughbred Owner's and Breeder's Association as the Outstanding Owner-Breeder in Indiana in 1993.
Richey joins Mari-Hulman George and Jake Frederick on the advisory committee. The committee, who's mission is to develop and promote a vibrant thoroughbred breeding industry in the state, advises the Racing Commission on a multi-platformed awards program which distributes approximately $3.6 million annually.
