Population

Madison State Hospital’s 120 beds serve adults struggling with the most severe mental health challenges. The hospital is divided into 10 units which are used to reflect MSH philosophy of recovery based psychiatric treatment. They have names such as Harmony Lane, Success Road and Serenity Way.

All units utilize the team concept with each team being comprised of a psychiatrist, registered nurse, social service specialist, psychologist or behavioral clinician, licensed practical nurse, behavioral health recovery attendants, pharmacist, rehabilitation therapist and dietician.  Team members work with the patient, patient’s family, support individuals and community outpatient providers to develop and implement individualized medical psychiatric treatment plans.  Evidence-based practice guidelines serve as templates for the development of our multi-faceted care. Below is a list of each unit and the populations they serve:

  • Hope Trail: Co-occurring Disorder, Day Treatment Program (SAMHSA based). Evidence-based informed services for patients with dual-diagnoses, a condition of substance use/dependency and mental illness. University of Rhode Island Change Assessment Scale (URICA) provides the basis of group inclusion and outcome monitoring. Groups are planned to provide intervention based on the individual’s current stage of change and to move them forward in recovery.
